Akhanda 2 Postponed Hours Before Release as ₹28 Crore Court Case Halts Balakrishna Film

Akhanda 2 Release Blocked Hours Before Premiere Amid ₹28 Crore Court Dispute

Boyapati Srinu’s Akhanda 2, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna in dual roles, was abruptly postponed just hours before its scheduled December 5 release, leaving fans shocked and theatres scrambling. The cancellation came minutes after the December 4 premieres were also called off, triggering chaos across major centres.

The delay stems from a long-pending arbitration dispute between Eros International Media Limited and 14 Reels Entertainment, involving unpaid dues amounting to ₹28 crore plus interest. Acting on Eros’ petition, the Madras High Court issued an order preventing the film’s release until the matter is resolved.

Tirrupur Subramanian, chairman of Sri Sakthi Cinemas, issued an update via a voice note posted on X. He assured audiences that both the makers and Balakrishna are “doing their best to ensure the release,” adding that the crucial court hearing between Eros and 14 Reels is scheduled for Friday morning. “I’m hoping 99% the issue will be sorted. We will know the status by noon or evening,” he said.

Akhanda 2’s production house said the postponement was due to “unavoidable circumstances,” informing fans that premieres were cancelled moments before they were set to begin. “We are working tirelessly to resolve the matter at the earliest. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused,” the team announced.

Fans, some of whom travelled long distances, expressed disappointment as pressure mounts on the producers to announce a new release date.

Our Thoughts:

The sudden halt of Akhanda 2 highlights how legal disputes can derail even the biggest theatrical releases in the Telugu industry. With high fan expectations and significant financial stakes, swift resolution is critical. All eyes now remain on the court’s next step and the producers’ ability to navigate the crisis.
