Ranveer Singh Faces Second Complaint After Alleged Insult to Tulu Daiva Tradition
Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has come under renewed scrutiny after a second complaint was filed against him for allegedly insulting the sacred Tulu spirit-worship tradition. The controversy began after his performance at the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on November 28, where he mimicked elements associated with daiva worship, a practice deeply respected in coastal Karnataka.
The latest complaint has been filed by Bengaluru-based High Court advocate Prashanth Methal, marking a fresh escalation in the ongoing backlash.
Fresh Complaint Filed in Bengaluru
According to reports, the advocate submitted a written complaint at the High Grounds Police Station alleging that Ranveer Singh mocked the revered daiva tradition during the IFFI ceremony. The complaint claims that the actor performed a caricature of Panjuluri or Guliga daiva, both of which hold significant cultural importance in the region.
The advocate described the performance as crude and disrespectful and stated that it caused deep hurt to Hindu sentiments, particularly within the Tulu community. The complaint also mentions that Ranveer allegedly referred to the daiva as a female ghost, which was labelled as offensive and inappropriate by the complainant, who has urged police to take legal action.
Earlier Complaint Filed in Goa
This is the second complaint registered in connection to the same incident. On December 1, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti lodged a complaint in Goa accusing the actor of insulting Chavundi daiva. The group demanded action after a video from the event went viral on social media, drawing sharp criticism from cultural groups in Karnataka.
The controversy has continued to grow as more community members expressed concern over the portrayal of sacred rituals on a public stage.
Ranveer Singh Issues an Apology
Following the backlash, Ranveer Singh shared an apology on social media. He addressed the concerns raised by community members and clarified that he had no intention of disrespecting any tradition or belief. The incident took place while the actor interacted with filmmaker Rishab Shetty during the closing ceremony, a moment that has now generated widespread discussion across social platforms.
The rising controversy around Ranveer Singh’s IFFI performance shows how cultural sensitivities continue to play a major role in the entertainment world. Public figures often face strong reactions when traditional practices are portrayed in ways that communities find inappropriate. As discussions continue, the need for mindful representation and deeper awareness of cultural traditions remains an important issue for both artists and audiences.
